We’ve all just returned from what can only be described as one of the best socials we’ve ever held, with this being TeamPCFs first outing we had what we would consider a great turn out for the weekend. 30 plus members turned up which meant we had 15 or so teams competing against each other for some great prizes. The day got underway early afternoon on Friday with everyone meeting one and another and drawing swims which was done in the usual PCF fashion of downing a shot of alcohol and finding your number at the bottom revealing your position in the draw. I’m not sure what vintage the Captain Morgans was but from judging everyones reaction it was ancient!
With swims drawn and a few beers sunk the teams drifted away to their chosen swims beginning the match. I believe Alan Sharp was first to catch with a stunning 39lb 12oz mirror (or mira to Al). I retreated home for the night and returned early the next day to find out that George Fenner and Josh Lowe both on the same team and fishing Poachers Pool had accumulated a result of 29lb 7oz, 22lb 7oz and a 26lber which was a new PB for George. After talking to the lads i heard of another team doing well through the night so i made my way around to all the teams collating results.
Tom Baker and Jack Smith were the lucky team to also catch during the evening/night. Tom had managed a 24lb 10oz, 35lb 6oz and a new personal best for him at a whopping 45lb 8oz! this putting them in the lead for day one.
By the time i had managed to get around to everyone it was time for the BBQ and social part of the whole event – with everyone winding in for the evening we all made our way round to the marquee for a famous Adam Lowbridge BBQ. We won’t forget Ben and Gary here who were both preparing meat Friday evening at home whilst the rest of us were sat on our arses enjoying ourselves. Well done lads! BBQ was a great success and whoever invited the entertainment (Al Sharp) is a winner!
I returned again on the final day to learn that Team George Fenner and Josh Lowe had another fish during the night from Poachers Pool at the weight of 35lb which currently stands as a Poachers Pool record. The young lads were almost certain they were now in the lead and winning the match but we was all to learn that Team Tom Baker and Jack Smith had also caught during the night. Jack managed to land a personal best of 36lb 12oz keeping them in the lead until the match ended. The news was broken savagely to George and Josh as you can imagine.
During the event we held a raffle to win some great prizes donated to us by some great local businesses – Fenland Fisheries, Holme Fen Fishery and Sheltons Tackle Peterborough. We also managed to raise just over £750.00 from the raffle and from the fines Gary was dishing out such as catching a carp over 40lb – £5.00, catching any carp – £2.00, Excessive snoring – £2.00, catching a new PB – £5.00 and so on. All money raised was kindly donated to Macmillan Cancer and the East Anglian children’s hospice.

Gary’s words summed up the event better than I ever could so I’ll finish off by saying the whole event was a great success and it went better then we could’ve ever expected. We have plans for more socials next year so if you are not already part of TeamPCF and want to be part of these great events click here.
